Community Garden

Welcome to our vibrant community garden, a collaborative effort between Heart and Hand Thrift Store and 1st United Methodist Church, nestled on the corner of Staunton Avenue in South Charleston. This verdant oasis serves as a beacon of community spirit and sustainable living. We warmly welcome volunteers to join us in nurturing the garden every Tuesday and Thursday by appointment. Together, we cultivate an abundance of fresh vegetables that not only nourish our souls but also fill our food boxes, providing wholesome meals to those in need. Thanks to the generous support of grants from AARP and Volunteer WV, our garden thrives as a testament to the power of community partnerships and the commitment to promoting health and well-being for all. Join us in sowing the seeds of compassion and sustainability in our beloved South Charleston community.

Seed Library

The Seed Library at Heart and Hand is a vibrant community resource designed to empower individuals to grow their own food, connect with nature, and promote sustainability. Located at the heart of our space, the library offers a diverse selection of seeds for vegetables, herbs, flowers, and native plants, all available for free or for a small donation. Visitors can take seeds home to plant in their gardens, while also contributing their own saved seeds to share with others. This exchange fosters a sense of community and encourages self-sufficiency, all while supporting biodiversity and environmental stewardship. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a beginner, the Seed Library at Heart and Hand is a welcoming place to start or expand your gardening journey. Open from March-July during our thrift store hours.
